My Discoveries: Alaska & the Yukon

Letter from Nan Delwiche, Director of Operations

I’ve been coordinating travel programs, first with World Wide Country Tours and now Country Travel DISCOVERIES, for 16 years. I’ve enjoyed wonderful opportunities to see so many local treasures and natural attractions, and help people plan amazing vacations across the U.S, and worldwide. But, for those who call in seeking a truly unparalleled, once-in-a-lifetime experience, I almost always start: Well, have you been to Alaska yet?

GlacierBlueSky-smFor the sheer diversity, splendor and expansiveness of its natural landscapes, Alaska & the Yukon is one of my all-time favorite travel experiences: It can move you and create memories to last all of your days. The mountains are among the most spectacular sights you’ll ever see, anywhere. You’ll never forget the mighty glaciers, amazing wildlife, and the friendly, hardy people who call this rugged land “home”.

For the uninitiated, though, the prospect of traveling through “the Last Frontier” can be at once thrilling and a little daunting. The region’s distance, size, isolation, and unusual terrain can present practical travel challenges. With so much to see and do, and so many logistics to consider, where does one begin? What’s the best way, for example, to see Juneau – the one U.S. state whose capital can only be reached by air or boat? Our tour covers an exciting array of transportation types: plane, train, motorcoach, sternwheeler, catamaran, cruise ship – even a helicopter option.

iS moose-smWith years of expertise and strong local relationships, we strive to make the experience at once seamless, safe and special – full of locals-only insights and opportunities to get off the beaten path. We are gratified that so many past travelers say they would never have seen nearly as much of Alaska and the Yukon on their own as we were able to show them.

Fireweed-sm.jpgI could go on and on, but...

But for now, if you have ever dreamed of visiting this amazing region, I simply want invite you to contact me directly for more information, or see tour details and itinerary here:  I will be glad to offer my help planning an amazing Alaska & the Yukon discovery tour best matching your personal interests.  I encourage you to call soon, though, because the allure and mystery of this region make this one of our most popular offerings each year – so much so that I’m writing to get word out early for 2014, along with a special incentive. Until February 28, 2014, you can treat yourself to the trip of a lifetime and take off $400.00 per couple ($200.00 per person) from the regular prices.
