CTD's 2016 Tour in Irish American News

Travel Supp CoverCountry Travel DISCOVERIES' 2016 tour, Ireland: A Celtic Jaunt, was recently featured in the Irish American News annual special travel issue.

Entitled "Experience Ireland Stress-Free (When Experts Do All the Work)," the full-page article by Rebecca Steimle addresses the would-be traveler who yearns to finally take that trip to the Emerald Isle, but is daunted upon finding that "planning the whole trip yourself, your to-do list may be growing longer than your packing list."

The travel issue appeared as a special insert this February in the Irish American News, which serves Irish American communities through local editions in both Illinois and Ohio.

CTD's Colorado Vintage Rail Tour Reviewed

The staff at Country Travel DISCOVERIES was pleased to receive a Google notice alerting us to a wonderfully illustrated review of our longstanding Colorado's Vintage Railways tour, posted by John Burlingham, Senior Editor, on Country Magazine's Good Neighbors blog.

"I was awestruck," Burlingham writes, "by the gorgeous view and the impossibly tiny rock ledge ahead that was expected to support vintage passenger cars, a puffing iron horse—and us, of course. This trip into the interior of southwestern Colorado’s Rocky Mountains was getting better with every train ride."

We can't agree more!

Thanks to the crew at Country Magazine for the shout! You can read the full review and see the great photographs here.

After some 30 years in the travel industry, first as Managing Director of World Wide Country Tours and then as President of Country Travel DISCOVERIES, I’ve certainly racked up my share of air miles. Following are some tips that can make your flying experience a bit more friendly...

Solo Travelers Share a Travel Experience, ExpensesCTD Solos Share Program Update

Country Travel DISCOVERIES has expanded efforts to help solo travelers save on the "single supplement" charged by some vendors. Through our popular Solos Share program, we can upon request attempt to “pair up” solo travelers of the same gender to room together, qualifying you both for the per person double occupancy price.

If for some reason we cannot match you with an acceptable roommate prior to your final payment due date, you can now opt to receive a full refund, or to travel as a single at $100.00 off the single supplement price. Call for more details.

Behind the Scenes of a New Tour

A Staff Dry Lab Trip Key to Building a Unique, Interesting Tour

Trappist Monks Make Fine Quality Coffins at Iowa AbbeyThe travel experts at Country Travel DISCOVERIES have always delighted in crafting tours that take us to less-trafficked, locals-only stops in a region's backroads, small towns and scenic countryside.

As a result, many a traveler has, at the end of a CTD tour, asked in surprise, "How on earth did you find these stops? We would never have seen all this on our own!"

Well, the secret is...

Blarney CastleWe've discovered a wonderfully detailed, richly illustrated travel blog recounting the experiences of two past travelers on CTD's perennial favorite, Ireland: A Celtic Jaunt trip. We think Jim and Jan of Appleton, Wisconsin did an excellent job documenting a variety of the tour's off-the-beaten-path stops, and conveying a real sense of the day-by-day flow of the tour, from the initial planning and anticipation to the satisfying return home from a "wonderful trip with lots of new friends and memories!!!"

Anyone considering joining the tour this year (with two departures in 2016 before going on hiatus) can find this fun and informative blog at

Thanks for sharing, Jan and Jim!
